DIRECTING WISH LIST
To Whom It May Concern – This is merely a sampling of authors, works, and genres that spark something in me…more to come, as always. One of the many reasons why I love directing is the discovery of the new, and the re-discovery of the forgotten. I treat classics like new plays, and new work with the depth and text analysis of classic plays.
Some favorite authors whose works I want to explore more: Lucas Hnath, Bess Wohl, Stephen Karam, Rajiv Joseph, Laura Eason, Nina Raine, Quiara Alegría Hudes, Ayad Akhtar, Carey Crim, J.T Rogers, George Brandt, Dominic Finocchiaro, Lauren Gunderson, George Bernard Shaw, Tennessee Williams, Aphra Behn, Harold Pinter, William Shakespeare, Lynn Nottage, Bertolt Brecht, Lydia Diamond,
Annie Baker, Anton Chekhov...
A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN
THE SOUND INSIDE
THE THANKSGIVING PLAY
Liz Duffy Adams
MARIE ANTOINETTTE, THE COLOR OF FLESH
I’ve directed two readings of this. It’s a powerful, sexy three-hander with two great roles for women and based on the woman who painted Marie Antoinette and survived the Revolution.
ANIMALS OUT OF PAPER
THE TURN OF THE SCREW
Jeffrey Hatcher adaptation of Henry James
An excellent two-hander, gripping and a tour-de-force for a man and woman.
John Patrick Shanley
I’ve directed a reading of this in LA and would love do a full production. Delightful boulevard comedy.
WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?
OLD TIMES / BETRAYAL / THE HOMECOMING
I’ve directed a university production of Old Times and can’t wait to do more Pinter.
THE COCKTAIL HOUR
A R Gurney
Growing up in Connecticut, I think I have a special insight into the family dynamics.
THREE DAYS OF RAIN
THE INVISIBLE HAND
PEOPLE, PLACES & THINGS
A BRIGHT ROOM CALLED DAY
MEN ON BOATS
SMALL MOUTH SOUNDS

THE REAL THING
George Bernard Shaw
I’ve directed it in LA, and would love to direct this warm, wise play again.
THE LION IN WINTER
ROCKET TO THE MOON
THE CHEKHOV / CARVER PROJECT
My adaptation of two short stories by
Anton Chekhov and Raymond Carver
I’ve directed a workshop production of this at Old Globe / USD. Great ensemble piece for 6 or 7 actors.
LOOT / WHAT THE BUTLER SAW
I’ve directed Butler in NJ and would love to come back to Orton’s darkly funny world.
PRIVATE LIVES / FALLEN ANGELS / HAY FEVER
I’ve directed a tour of Private Lives and a production of Fallen Angels in Maine. I can’t wait to refill the champagne flutes again.
STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE / SUMMER AND SMOKE
GETTTING MARRIED / MISALLIANCE / YOU NEVER CAN TELL
George Bernard Shaw
I have directed a university production and a professional reading of my cut of Getting Married. It’s a funny, prescient ensemble piece that depicts characters at the turn of the last century wrestling with the questions of love, marriage and responsibility.
AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY
THE LEARNED LADIES
SIR PATIENT FANCY / THE ROVER
I have directed a couple of productions of Fancy at training programs around the country, including Juilliard. It’s a fun, bawdy, smart piece with five female leads. I would love to direct it at a professional theatre in the future.
I have adapted an 8-10 person version of the text. I have directed a production of my cut in Chicago, and would welcome the chance to revisit it.
MEASURE FOR MEASURE / HAMLET / MUCH ADO / KING LEAR / THE WINTER'S TALE
MY FAIR LADY
Lerner and Lowe
ASSASSINS / COMPANY
